Hi eSol. You scanned it.
Of course you did. You’re the curious kind.
I'm Maria. For four years I worked with Monash Service Desk, and for the last year and a half I was secretly building a bridal couture studio by night. This is the story of how one shaped the other.
I'm a dressmaker by trade.
In January 2025 I launched SISO Studio, a bespoke bridal atelier. By May 2025 I had my debut show at One Fine Day.
For most of that time I worked full-time here, went home, and worked another four to six hours into the night, plus weekends. Gowns don't sew themselves, and neither do quotes, fitting schedules, or sales calls.
Why SISO?
The name comes from Sisophon, a city in Cambodia. It's where my mum learned to sew, in the years after the Khmer Rouge genocide of the 1970s.
In just a few years, Cambodia lost an enormous amount of its art, skill, knowledge and culture, along with so many of the people who carried it. My mum learning to sew in the aftermath was one small thread of something being rebuilt.
SISO Studio is my way of picking up that thread. It's my stepping stone toward something meaningful: work that is beautiful, intentional, and slow in a world that moves very fast.
What the Service Desk taught a dressmaker.
I didn't arrive here "tech savvy." What I got was exposure, repetition, and permission to be curious. Somewhere along the way, I started feeling a bit like a hacker.
All of it went straight into the studio:
Standard responses → client communications. Every bride gets clear, consistent answers, the way a good knowledge article should read.
Ticket workflows → an end-to-end system. An enquiry comes in, moves through a sales funnel, automatically gets its own client folder, books itself into my calendar, and triggers milestone emails as the gown progresses.
Data hygiene and security. Clean filing, sensible access, and protecting client information. Turns out brides' measurements deserve the same care as staff records.
I learned to lean on AI and automation instead of fearing them. That's why a one-woman studio can run like a small team..
Leave me some advice!
